Created to be customized and adapted to fit each family’s unique situation, Our Baby is Loved is a playful, yet poignant tool that can help children process and explore the complexity of a serious perinatal diagnosis

about the book

Our Baby is Loved was written by Abigail Gellene-Beaudoin, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT), and Advanced Palliative and Hospice Social Worker - Certified (APHSW-C) from tidewater, Virginia. She has worked at Edmarc, a home health and hospice for children, since 2015 providing medical social work services to patients and families who endure life-threatening or life-limiting pediatric diagnoses. She is particularly passionate about Edmarc's perinatal support program, Bridges of Hope, which provides support to families who receive a life-threatening diagnosis during pregnancy.

Through her work with the Bridges of Hope program, she found that resources were lacking for families facing medically complicated pregnancies. One example she encountered time and time again was that families often asked how they might share the information about their complicated pregnancy with their other children, knowing the outcome is uncertain. Abigail counseled and coached many of these families on developmentally appropriate ways to share this information and support their children, and often searched for a tool that could be left with families to help children process the complicated nature of the pregnancy. Thus was born: Our Baby is Loved. With this book, Abigail hopes that families can feel empowered to give children the gift of honest information as it pertains to their medically complicated pregnancy.
